As an independent artist, you have a lot of ground to cover, from making the music to promoting it & a whole lot more. The list is very long. When you’re first starting in the industry, this can be a little overwhelming. At Artist Republik, one of our goals is to help artists feel a little less overwhelmed. We decided to start a new program that includes monthly series on various topics that involve your career. This month, we’re running the Fan Engagement Bootcamp. Each week we’re going to bring you a new element of Fan Engagement that you might have known before! Then, at the end of the month, we will have a fully developed Fan Engagement Workbook for you to download as a present for sticking with us. This week, we will be giving you a brief introduction to the ideas behind this kind of engagement.
What is Fan Engagement?
Fan engagement is a concept built around the idea that you have fans. That engagement is about keeping those fans connected to you, your music, & your brand. In this day & age, it’s easy to lose fans & the way to keep them is by keeping them engaged with you consistently. Someone good at engagement will make each & every fan feel like they are a part of your musical career. There are a lot of ways to do this (but we’ll get into those later). What’s most important about this engagement is understanding that it is a RELATIONSHIP between you, the artist, & the fans.
As an artist, you want to have high levels of engagement. The engagement, in turn, will make your fans want to spend their time following you & taking action to show their support. That action can include listening to your music, buying your merch, going to your shows, or anything else you might do! You also want to make sure that you can retain those fans through your engagement methods. Many people see engagement concerning their careers in a variety of ways:
- Long-Term Growth Strategy
- Monetary Security
- Building a Fanbase
- The List Goes On
We suggest that you read this and think hard about what you want your Fan Engagement to mean. Ask yourself a few questions. What does fan engagement mean to me? What would it mean to my fans? Where do I want my fan engagement to go? How does fan engagement sit within my current career strategy?
Write your answers down & mull them over. Next week, we will discuss where you can start your engagement journey & how to implement that quickly & easily into your plans.
